Bienvenida a la República Dominicana

Day 1: Arrival in Jarabacoa.

I sit here in the newly initiated VAW apartment way to excited to sleep. LUC VAW is officially kicking off its first Medical Outreach Trip in the Dominican Republic. (see www.volunteersaroundtheworld.org) After a long year of wanderlust post-study-abroad, I am finally giving in to my innate nature to travel while chasing after something I have for so long ought to do: serve in medicine. However, I am a bit on edge as to how the next two weeks are going to go. I'm not entirely sure if I have prepared my team as best as possible, nor am I sure that these 14 peers know each other all too well. We fit Loyola ratio completely well (seeing our entire group is female.) They all seem so quiet. I am not sure if it is due to my semi-awkward presentation nature, or if they are just soft-spoken. We will soon find out in the upcoming days (or should I say upcoming hours-after I settle in and nap!)
